Do you know where your data is?
One of the more common questions I get is, "What data do I need?" Most clients want to immediately sit down and think through the possibilities of what problems they're trying to solve as well as add-ons to the initial issue that was raised.
I almost always stop them, and for good reason, because more often than not, their data isn't where they think it is. Sure, you have a CRM system, but are the contact logs updated, or did the sales team start using a simpler offline option? We can look at the full P&L, but does the finance team believe in the allocations data that's in the system? The list goes on and on.
So before we get to a wishlist on what we could do with the possible data analysis, it always helps to take a moment to reality-check the data. It pays off very quickly.
